My Observatory
My Stairway to the Heavens....with thanks to Alan and Simon
The StarzantiSkies Observatory was built over my 4-car garage in the suburbs of Orlando, FL in 2018. Despite the light pollution (Bortle 7) in my sky, astrophotography allows me the opportunity to explore the heavens in ways that cannot be fully appreciated through visual observations only.
The cement pier runs 4 feet under street level, to 15 feet above ground through the garage into the observatory. On top of that is an adjustable steel pier, upon which the AP 1100 mount sits to allow placement of the telescopes. The main scope is a Celestron C11" EdgeHD with a William Optics WIFD RedCat 91 refractor piggybacked on top of it. Both scopes are fully automated with autofocus motors, guide cameras, and rotators. The C11 is equipped with an off-axis guider while the RedCat utilizes a guide scope. The Pier Tech automated roll-of-roof is 10'x10'.
